You’ve probably heard about hulu.com. This is the US equivalent of iplayer in the US for the NBC channel. The snag though is, that it “knows” what country you are in, and you have to be in the States to watch all those lovely programs.

The solution is Hotspot Shield from AnchorFree Software. Its available for windows and mac. This creates a private VPN on a proxy, so “fooling” any server that talks to into thinking it is local. It can also be used by those Americans to use iplayer to watch the BBC.
Another advantage is that it also acts as a secure VPN if you are browsing on public wifi – and indeed this is supposed to be its main use.
