Elgato Video Capture records analog for Macs
Elgato today released the Video Capture, a Mac-specific peripheral for recording analog video from VCRs or other sources to a digital format. The USB stick accepts RCA, S-video and (through an adapter) SCART footage and, through Elgato’s own software, can convert it to H.264 or MPEG-4 for export to iTunes or editing through software like iMovie. It can adapt to 4:3 or 16:9 widescreen videos and recognizes international video standards like NTSC and PAL.
Using the Video Capture requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core Duo or better processor and Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later. Playing the resulting video also requires QuickTime 7.6 and iTunes 8.1. Elgato is shipping the Video Capture to Europe today for €100 ($135) and hasn’t said if or when it comes to the US.
