Usually at this time of year, after the presents for Xmas are crossed off the list and the nights start to draw in, we start to think about next year’s holidays. But, with the Credit Crunch in full swing, maybe the thought of lazing on an idyllic beach in the Med seems like it will remain just a distant dream.

But do not abandon hope! Because, with the help of kayak.co.uk, you can find a holiday for as little money as possible. Now, they are not travel agents, and they don’t do package holidays, so a little effort is needed to “build” yourself a holiday.

Let’s have a go!

Go to the website and click “flights”. Put in your departure airport eg LONDON, then a destination, let’s try Murcia in Spain. Then choose your holiday dates – be as flexible as you can. You will notice as you put dates in, a calender for the month you have chosen appears and helps you choose the cheapest dates to travel. Click search.

The MAGIC happens, as the search bar does its thing, you will notice that the engine checks EVERY airline that does that route. At the end of the search the cheapest options are at the top. EASY! But it gets better – click the “chart view” tab – and the cheapest dates are highlighted.

Right, now click “hotels”, the same dates remain for your convenience, type in say, Alicante, and again lots of hotel chain websites are searched for the best deal. You can also add car hire to the search as well.
